Axie Infinity, a game based on non-fungible tokens (NFT), has surpassed $1 billion in sales, an all-time high for the Ethereum blockchain-based platform. Axie Infinity is a Pokemon-like game in which users must collect “Axies,” which are cute characters, each with their own unique combination of body parts, shape, and abilities.
The NFT game has its own virtual economy through in-game tokens – Smooth Love Potion (SLP) and Axie Infinity Shard (AXS).
In the past 30 days, the game has generated nearly $780 million in sales through 1.4 million transactions, making it the highest-valued NFT project in the world.
NFTs have increased radically in popularity over the past two years, but especially during the pandemic. Their volume rose to a whopping $2.5 billion in the first half of 2021. While they are supposed to help establish a unique identity, many see them as a true investment that will continue to pay off handsomely in the future.
